Seattle: Postal Worker's Job Made Painfree

Scott Harris has been a postal worker for the past 30 years. He is planning to retire to the Phillipines in four years. He has property there in Cebu.
About five years ago Scott came to Z-CoiL of Seattle at the base of Capital Hill with an appointment to see the onsite consulting podiatrist Dr. Kerch. He was diagnosed with plantar fascitis and was treated accordingly. Since his pain was so severe he was a candidate for foot surgery.
Scott says, " I was due to go under the knife, but the Z-CoiL Pain Relief Footwear relieved my pain".
"I bought my first pair of Z-CoiL's five years ago. Now I have four pairs. The regular postal shoes last six months. These 4 pairs are the longest lasting shoes I have ever worn. My four pairs are all usable after five years. Even the coils on my shoes, open and enclosed coils, have lasted two years. The Z-CoiL shoes are well worth the money, not even taking into consideration the health benefits."
"I prefer the enclosed coils because wearing the open coils delays me an additional 30 minutes to do my mail route. Not as many people stop me to ask about my shoes when I wear the enclosed coils. When I wore my solar cap and the Z-CoiL shoes, I couldn't even get out of the elevator because of having so many people asking me questions.
-What are those?
I've never seen them before.
Are those the basketball shoes with the springs that strengthen the calf for training? (No, these are mostly therapeutic shoes)
Now I mostly wear the enclosed coils. I have more energy and I am not so worn out at the end of the day-it's like walking on a cloud."
"I'm really satisfied with the Z-CoiL shoes. They are great for walking on concrete."
"I tried the rocker sole type shoes, but they do not have the same effect. Those rocker soles really aren't for plantar fascitis since they lean you back more toward your heels."

Z-Coil - Nursing for Nurses Forum

Z-Coil shoes - 29th May, 2008 - Nursing for Nurses: "I have to admit have been the best nursing shoe I have ever worn. I suffered from heel pain 3 years into my nursing career and tried every shoe out there. I finally found Z-Coils and can honestly say made working 12 hour shifts feel like 8 hours."

Z-COIL SHOES : We Fix Traffic Tickets Blog

Z-COIL SHOES : We Fix Traffic Tickets Blog: "Most of you know I’ve been a fan of Z-Coil shoes for about 10 years. We went camping and did some hiking over the fourth of July in Joshua Tree National Park. I say some hiking because my Z-Coil High Desert Hikers literally fell apart during a short hike on the third. The glue holding the soles to the body gave way and that was the end of any more hiking. When packing for our trip

High Desert Hiker
I selected a pair of gray Z-coil hikers that had been barely broken-in over an older pair of brown hikers that are well worn. Who would have thought that a $250.00 pair of shoes would fall apart?"

Podcast: Dr. Pat Show - Lilli Bennett's Life Changed with Z-CoiL

Z-Coil Seattle - When Lilli Bennett, 80, was a very active 73 yr old “snow bird” (South in the winters), walking daily and playing a sports court game called pickleball, she started having severe hip pain making it impossible to continue her activities.

She purchased her first pair of Z-Coils, WOW, within days she was able to continue being active. Not only has Z-Coils relieved her pain and discomfort, but since she had been a child, she has had hammer toes that created alot of discomfort. Lilli says, "I can honestly state that Z-Coils has corrected that issue as well. I now own 8 pair of Z-Coils I wear them daily to be able to function. Z-Coils, Pain relief footwear, has changed my life. I may be 80, but I spring along as if I were “16”!!!

Relieving the pain of Plantar Fasciitis

My good friend Linda Telge in San Diego was an operating room nurse for
almost 30 years when she developed painful Plantar Fasciitis that threatened to
ruin her nursing career. But, after just 30 days of wearing Z-Coils shoes,
the pain went away entirely. So, what did she do? She quit her
nursing job and opened a Z-Coil Pain Relief Footwear store in La Mesa( z-shoe.com) . Of course, all
of the doctors laughed at her and told her she would be back to nursing within a
month. Well, that was six years ago, and Linda is still pain-free and
helping other people to find pain relief with Z-Coils too. (Read Article)

Shoes That Give Back to Your Body and Community

Positive Magazine
July 2009

Shoes are one of our convenient inventions to protect our feet against harsh terrain. Shoes have evolved over decades into six-inch heels for women and ridged footwear for men; but what if our shoes provided more than protection and discomfort. What if they could give your body back some of the energy it expends in walking. Z-Coil shoes are said to help strengthen your body, provide buffer so that being on your feet doesn’t wear your energy down. I had to try out a pair for myself

I picked up a pair of Z-Coil shoes ... this past week and I must say, they are comfortable. The spring acts like a firm box spring to assist in making walking smooth and less of a shock on the body. Walking with that extra pep in your step is a clear benefit of wearing Z-Coils. Also, when walking uphill the spring provides extra momentum to makes each step relaxing rather than arduous exercising: certainly a benefit for those who travel frequently and find yourself walking from terminal to terminals. Also, great for active persons who want a shoe that doesn’t drag or lag. When I put on my Z-Coils I feel like running. (Read More)

Z-Coil Shoes Alleviate Foot & Back Pain As You Walk

Written by Lynnette on February 16, 2008

Have you seen commercials for Z-Coil shoes on TV? We have a store here in Nashville, and I've been seeing a lot of commercials for Z-Coil on TV lately.

I've also seen quite a few people wearing these shoes -- both here, and in other states. And, I have to say... while they look quite unique, they are intriguing and interesting to say the least.

I thought I'd see what this fun new form of footwear was all about. Here's what I've learned: (Read More)

Product Innovation - No Pain, No Gain

By Troy Marcyes, Intuit

In the early 1980's, Al Gallegos was running an average of seven miles a day. He suffered all the typical injuries associated with running. And although he owned a shoe store at the time and had access to all types of running shoes, he was unable to find a shoe that eased his pain.

Realizing that the source of his pain was impact, Al reasoned that putting a "shock-absorber" in the heel of his shoe would reduce the force of impact. And as an added benefit, a spring would provide some form of energy return, to help him run faster and farther.

Caeser Snee, owner of Z-Coil Pain Relief Footwear stores in San Jose and San Francisco, recently shared his business insight at the Intuit Small Business Town Hall on May 14th, 2009. The Town Hall featured numerous Small Business owners sharing their views on how to survive and thrive despite the economic climate. (Read More)

Treating foot pain without surgery

By GLORIA CAMPOS / WFAA-TV

DALLAS - While the women's dress shoe industry is a $15 billion annual business, another $5 billion is spent each year trying to find relief for aching feet.

But there is some good news: Most foot pain can be treated without surgery.

"This is public enemy number one," said Dr. Kelly Walker while eyeing a high-heeled sandal in a catalog. "They are beautiful and I would like to be able to wear them every day, but I can't either."

Walker, a podiatrist, said she knows about foot pain first hand since she suffers from plantar fasciitis. (Read More, Watch Video)

Mommy Brain Reports: Review- Z-Coil Shoes

Apr-30-2009 By Monica

I’m always on the lookout for the coolest things around, and this review is no exception!

I was watching The Doctors one day, and they had on a pair of interesting looking shoes, that they claimed made them stand a little taller, and helped their posture. They also explained how these shoes acted like shock absorbers for their bodies.

I thought that had to be a gimmick, but I was willing to try them, so I contacted Z-coil and explained how my back, knees, and hips have hurt since carrying my twins, and my husband’s back and knees have hurt him from all of the running he did while in the Marine Corps.

They actually agreed to give us each a pair of shoes… But it wasn’t something they could just send us.

We had to go to a local authorized dealer to get custom fitted for our Z-coil shoes. (Read More)

The Ergonomic and Economic Cushion in Hard Times

Press Release:

Wall Street Journal reports rise in number of pain patients due to stress as economic crisis worsens. The Journal of the American Medical Association reports most at-work pain sufferers cited back pain, arthritis pain, and other musculoskeletal pain. The Ergonomic Z-CoiL® Pain Relief Footwear® helps reduce muscular stress and musculoskeletal pain. There's a very strong relationship between the economy and the number of out-of-control stress cases we see.

April 14, 2009 -- In hard economic times, stress levels go up, muscles tighten and vulnerable people start feeling pain. One way to cushion the beating that bodies (and wallets) take when times are tough is to simply to wear the right shoes. Many people are working longer hours or taking on extra jobs to make ends meet, and when people spend that time on their feet, standing or walking on hard, unforgiving floors, the result can be devastating to health.

According to a recent interview in the Wall Street Journal* with Dr. Christopher L. Edwards, director of the Behavioral Chronic Pain Management program at Duke University Medical Center, they are seeing a rise in patients amid the current economic crisis. "There's a very strong relationship between the economy and the number of out-of-control stress cases we see." Muscular tension is the typical bodily reaction we see when someone is stressed. So if we walk around without coping with it, it takes a toll on our muscles. Over time this can lead to the chronic aches and pains associated with stress. (Read More)

QVC Community » Forums » Fashion Talk » z-coil shoes?

On Thursday, a Z-CoiL discussion began on the QVC Community Forums. Below are a couple of posts:

I am at that point where comfort is VERY important to me. Was wearing pedors shoes but someone suggested z-coil shoes. Anyone own a pair or have an opinion? Yes, I know they are funny looking. - traveler

I have owned a pair of z-coil shoes for over 3 years. They are the most comfy shoes I have ever put on my feet in my life of over 54 years. I just love them and wear them three seasons except summer. I wear them anywhere I go, from casual to dressy occasions as well as all day walking tour in London. They wear well and still look new after wearing almost everyday eight months a year for last several years. The most comfy and fun shoes ever!!! They often serve as conversation starter. They even give me a little boost to my height (>2 inches) without any discomfort. - MaryMD

Wow! Thanks for starting this thread!!

ShopQueen-thanks for the website address, and Vamp, I appreciated reading your comments. Vamp, what part of the country are you in? West Coast? East Coat? Middle?

I just looked at the website, and I can hardly wait to see what it feels like to wear these shoes.....they make me smile, and remind me of a funny Seinfeld TV Episode...I wonder if they got the idea for that particular episode from seeing these shoes....On that website, I found I store I am familiar with, and I will get there in the next few weeks, so that I can try on a pair of these. I walk a lot here in NYC (Manhattan) so I'm always on the lookout for a good running shoe, b/c they have the most cushioning and padding...but now, i'll have to try these. I am also a shoe lover, so I am intrigued. I can hardly wait to see how these feel. And yes, they are unusual looking, and sometimes something so unusual, or "ugly" can go so far that it becomes rather ATTRACTIVE LOL Yes, I am serious. -nycgal

Z-Coil Testimonial- heal your Plantar Fasciitis | Authentic Threads

"Its funny, because in 2004 I ran a marathon with no foot injuries or pain. But about a year later, I started working at a new place and wearing flat, non-cushioned work shoes. I walked several blocks on cement to a bus, then I walked on cement to the building I worked in, then I walked on cement all around my neighborhood.

Suddenly I had flaming pain underneath my foot that I learned was Plantar fasciitis. It took me awhile to figure out what the pain was. Basically the plantar fascia under my foot had torn a little bit from all the pounding my feet were getting, then it got inflamed, and because I kept walking everyday, it never got a chance to heal.

Well, after many months of pain, I found Z-Coil shoes online. They are so ugly, but I swear, my feet hurt so bad, I just didn’t care at all. I had a family vacation coming up and I didn’t want to be in pain the whole time. I wore my Z-Coil shoes for two weeks before the trip." (Read More)

OhGizmo! » Archive » Z-CoiL Shoes Are Apparently Not A Sight Gag

By Andrew Liszewski

While they might look like they came from a grade 6 science fair project, the Z-CoiL line of shoes are apparently very real. Their most striking feature, the Z-CoiL itself, is made of steel and serves two purposes.

First, it slows the rate of impact experienced by the body when taking a step, since it absorbs a lot of that energy as the coil is compressed. Then as the foot moves forward to take the next step that energy in the coil is released, giving you a small boost.

Unfortunately the shoes just look plain ridiculous, and I’d gladly choose to live with any pain if the alternative involved me wearing these things in public. (Read More)

The above article generate a rather large amount of comments:

I'm a healthcare professional and I wear Z-CoiL shoes in my office every day. I own seveal pair. They have been great for my back and knees. Your sophomoric comments about z-coil reflect a lack of awareness. Z-CoiL (headquartered in Albuquerque, NM) has been selling this footwear for over 12 years... - John Dobbins

Z-CoiL shoes were recommended to me by my knee surgeon to save me from a second surgery...5 years later of wearing z-Coils and no knee pain and NO KNEE SURGERY! - Sandy

I guess ignorance is bliss... apparently, you have not been in as much pain as I have in my life, because if you were, you would realize that if a shoe can make you be pain-free when doctors have recommended surgery on both knees and hip, you would wear them! Without my Z-CoiL's, I am in a lot of pain and have a severely reduced quality of life. With Z-CoiL's, I lead a normal productive life... I just hope that you never have to endure the kind of pain that I have, but if you do, try Z-CoiL's. It changed my life and it will change yours! - James R.

Testimonial: A 40 Mile Journey from Arlington in the Snow and Rain to Get Z-CoiL

SEATTLE, WA - Delia and her husband made the long trek from Arlington in the snow and rain to buy her sixth pair of Z-coils. She says,"I have worked as a nurse for Lifecare Marysville for 9 1/2 years. I pulled a muscle 4-5 years ago in my back. My legs and hip began hurting 4 years ago. My plantar fascitis causes everything to hurt."

She has worn Z-coils for the past 4 years and now owns 6 pairs. She bought a pair of grey freedoms today with the coils enclosed (covered). Any Zcoil shoe can have the coils covered. A non-skid spray was applied to her soles due to the foul weather conditions lately. She also owns a pair of sandals, white clogs, white freedoms x2, and a pair of brown hiker Z-coil footwear..

She found out about the Zcoil from her father-in-law who was going to sell Zcoil footwear in Sun City, AZ. She says' "Since wearing the Zcoil my back has stopped hurting. I have stopped crying from the pain since wearing Zcoils and recommend Zcoils to others. I hand out cards to everyone."

Testimonial: Chela Keeps Her Job as a Traveling Nurse

Seattle Z-Coil: Chela Hutchison and her mom came in to try on new and buy established styles of Zcoil yesterday.

Chela works at the Renton campus of Virginia Mason as a travel nurse. She says" I would not be able to still be a floor nurse if it were not for the Z-coil footwear. I have sacroiliac dysfunction and arthritis in my right lumbosacral region."

Chela was first introduced to the Z-coils four years ago while working at Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina. Two years later she bought her first pair in Pennsylvania. She has a pair of white freedoms and a pair of anniversary edition styles. Today she purchased her third pair of Z-coils: another anniversary style since she likes them so much.

The lynco orthotics, with the extra metatarsal support, especially assist her with the ball of the foot discomfort. She stood on the I-step machine for a free pressure analysis and for recommendations on which arch support to get.

She is thrilled," I have referred two nurses from Puyallup to this store when I was at Good Samaritan Hospital. The Z-coils have decreased my pain and increased my quality of life. I have significantly reduced the need for pain medications. If it were not for the shoes, I would not be able to walk or work."

- Love these shoes! I have bad knees too, and since I started wearing Z-Coils I am pain free! I agree with reality_curious that these shoes are more forgiving than most as the coil will adjust itself on uneven ground better. I run outside with them and they’re great. Thanks, Z-Coil! (jewbana)

- I have been wearing these shoes for about a year at the initial urging by a friend of mine. Over the years I have suffered a number of injuries, most as a result of a head on collision 22 years ago. I had three knee surgeries, a compressed disc, two herniated discs and a resulting bone spur on my spine. In addition, I previously broke both my feet in separate accidents.

I didn’t think these shoes would help, but after a little coaxing I now own three pairs, the sneaker, dress shoe and a hiking boot. I hiked twice in the hiking boot each time for over 5 miles. I love them! I am glad to see they are making it to the mainstream! I always get a lot of questions when I wear them. (ChiTown)
